Frequently asked questions

  1. What if I can’t sing?!
First off, EVERYONE can sing...but that's another whole discussion. If you don't feel confident in your voice, no worries! We're asking you to help us bring "River Rock" to life visually, to tell the story of over 100 women+ coming together to celebrate, inspire and galvanize. We want to capture your spirit and your message in this video, and we'll use professionally recorded audio for the final product.

  2. Which part do I sing?
Please start singing along with Meghan on the 2nd chorus. Once the choir comes in, you’ll sing along with them. We’ve created a sing along track that begins at the second verse just before you start to sing (HERE). Or, you can use this special sing along track to hear the choir part (your part) extra loud so you know what parts to sing (HERE). Download either one and sing along to it for your video. Sing Louder!

  3. Can I read the lyrics while I sing?
Yes, but your video is more likely to be used in the "River Rock" video if you sing directly into the camera and we can see your face. So we recommend learning the lyrics ahead of time so you can really sing your heart out for the camera! Find the lyrics you need to learn HERE, and the special sing along track to hear the choir part (your part) extra loud HERE.

  4. The choir parts sometimes overlap. How do I sing that?
When the choir overlaps, feel free to sing one line and skip the next. Or sing both lines and just skip that last word. Whichever you choose, sing it with gusto!

  5. How close up should I be?
Check out Meghan's video HERE to see a good example of framing. And check out director, Will Drinker's, tips for camera angle and lighting, HERE.

  6. Should I look right into the camera?
Absolutely! We want to see YOU.

  7. Where can I download the full song?
Feel free to listen/download/share the full track of "River Rock" (just choose to pay $0) HERE.

  8. Should I use selfie mode or the rear camera on my phone?
In general, the rear cameras on phones are better quality. But if you find it easier to frame yourself and sing to the camera in selfie mode, do it! The only thing to remember about selfie mode is that it flips everything around. So, if you're wearing or standing in front of images or words that will look funny in mirror image, change your shirt or flip to the rear camera. If you're holding up a sing iwth your message on it, please use the rear camera, so we can read it!

  9. Why is everything backward?
Selfie mode...please see no. 7 above.

  10. Can my daughter (son/mother/father/spouse/etc) join me in the video?
Absolutely! Anyone you're sheltering in place with is welcome to join you in the video. Please just make sure you're close together in the middle of the frame (imagine that we will be taking a center square out of your video image to use in the finished film.)

  11. How do I play the song and record myself at the same time?
Choose your best recording device (probably your smart phone if you have one) to make the video, and play the MP3 on a separate device - computer, ipad, bluetooth device, CD player (if you need a CD version of the song please let me know)
